I had this urge to draw, all day while I was at work making the world a better place with graphic design. Was listening to a lot of Lana Del Rey, fascinated with her music lately, and surprise, surprise, I draw a girl. It has been a while. I let myself off, maybe I just needed to get this out.

I don't like finishing / polishing off a piece, it never looks how I intended most of the time.

I need to just. draw. more. bianca. More nights in with the cider and watercolours to come :)

Pencil and watercolour, with scans of vintage wallpapers (trying something a little different). Love the way watercolour follows the pencil lines. Fun.

Illy Friday - Contraption

My fiance Toby is great at making handy contraptions like the image above. Pictured is the original 6 prong Weiner Roaster that was made for our neighbours Andrew and Denise for the Canadian Party we had on the weekend. Such a timesaver - roasting 6 weiners instead of 1 at a time :)

Upon review, Toby is a bit upset I have missed out a lot of delicate details such as the angle of the prong and such. But we don't have all day for this.

Europe Postcards {1 year on}

To keep myself a little creative I have been trying a 'one-a-day' project. Nothing to the extent of the crazy and very talented/committed Mr Ben Hood, but only for the 5 and a half weeks of my Euro Trip last year. Am going through my journal entry for the day and doing a quick little postcard based on the events I wrote about.

It's nice to come across the little things I have forgotten about along the way, and also a friend suggested yesterday that I could make a travel quilt at the end. Brilliant idea. Or even cushions. The drinks poster will eventually become a cushion I think. A bit of fun anyway to get through the remainder of winter :)

Illy Friday - Stay

First thought was that excellent early 90s song - Stay by Shakespears Sister. Mum and Dad had the album in their CD collection, and the girls really captivated me. They were hardcore to an 8 year old like me at the time. In my teenage years, I always thought it would make a great wedding song. I clearly was a bit of a nutter. Still a big fan of the song to this day.
Anyway, I tried to draw them, and struggled a bit so just mucked around a bit with what I did before I screwed the paper up and threw it at the cat. Sometimes I wish I could stay on track more with drawing.

More butterflies! {Work in Progress}

Started work on a print for a dear friend's little girls bedroom. Working out composition before I begin colouring properly. Butterflies are great - they seem to just look good no matter what you do with them. The final product will be mounted on ply board. Will post a pic once done.

Turns out this week it could 'kind of' tie in with the IF topic - Midsummers Night. Heading off tomorrow to QLD for the marathon this weekend, so TOTALLY strapped for time :)

I am a bit of a beginner on drawing birds (very loose reference to the topic!). These chubby little fellas I am drawing for a client. Have penciled and inked the birdies and have some watercolour blobs ready to pop together tomorrow once it all dries. Can't wait actually - nice to try something new.

A street scene in Palata, Italy from my sketchbook. All these old Italian men sitting across the street at a cafe, was too good of an opportunity to not snap a photo. We were on our way to gatecrash an Italian wedding whilst in our daggy travel clothes. Funny.

I take the photos first, then sketch. Thought it was fitting to scan it exactly from my sketchbook for the topic this week. I could spend the rest of my life drawing street scenes from travelling. So interesting.

I have been pretty snowed under this week, and feel the tinge of guilt for not getting an Illy Friday out, but here is a pic a put together a few weeks ago with ink and watercolour. I did in wonky on purpose, so it looks hand drawn. Uh... yeah. I liked the look of it in grey as I was scanning it too. Blue Lake Paper is fantastic for watercolour. Is making me excited for my new letterpressed business cards arriving next week which will be getting a douse of watercolour from me. Hooray!

Things I stir with. Maybe I whisk with a whisk, not stir, but I wanted to draw one. It is kinda stirring.

This all started with a coloured pencil background I drew, with intentions of using it as it was, but it was quite terrible once I scanned it so I popped a few photoshop filters over top. The utensils were drawn with black pen around my notes I have in front of my keyboard.

Wanted to try some different colours as I have a habit of leaning towards pink.

Man, I just cannot draw boys! I started this as doing a pic of Green Day (one of my most favourite bands EVER) because of their song - Warning. Which is not my favourite song of theirs - Basket Case is by the way..), but was the first thing stuck in my head while I thought about this weeks Illy Friday topic.

So I started to draw, badly, real bad, then scribble. Then I nearly screwed it up but remembered as a Graphic Designer I can make any absolutely shithouse image look cool by adding some colour and stuff. So I did.

It still looks more like Elvis than Billie Joe, but whatever. I will never get this past 30 minutes of my life back....

Went for a totally different colour palette from usual to have a bit of a play. Nice honey colours :) Seem to have a bit of a thing going on lately with insects too.

Illy Friday - Layer - NO UNDO BUTTON!

This blank canvas and easel has been sitting in my office for a couple of weeks now so I was pretty stoked when I realised I could use it for Illy Friday. I took some progress shots during the week as I worked on it (on my phone so pretty bad quality).

I am a fan of David Bromley and had an image of this butterflies painting in my head that I wanted to replicate in a similar style. His has a lot more detail and looks fantastic. I need instant results so work pretty quickly and in a simple style.

First of all I painted the background, then thought it would be cool to try and paint over lace to get a pattern. Didn't quite go as planned. I nicknamed the painting 'Shits on a Sunset' at this stage. The brown fleck photo!

Was a bit stuck on a job this afternoon so headed outside to finish this baby off. Was nice to be outside in the fresh air! I want to try more with acrylic paints as it is a nice break from the computer and the safety net of the undo button. Even little things like I usually do like change colours on a pic, I couldn't with this, and that was nice actually!

Wow. It is late. 12.15am to be exact. I quickly sketched this up and scanned in once I had finally finished my last job for the day. Has been another big week work-wise. Anyway!
When I think of sweater, of course I think of one of Australia's coolest ever band Eskimo Joe and one of their first ever songs - sweater. That is where the text came from. The image, I don't know. I just rolled with it. I have only had one coffee today and that was like 14 hours ago. Bed Time!

This topic I struggled with. Kept thinking of drawing a person in a cage as a pet with a massive bird as an owner or a car doing reverse donuts!
In the shower last night while I thought about how sore my muscles were, I got thinking again about massage and yoga which lead to a drawing of the reverse warrior pose. Hoorah. Simple!
Drawn while watching some documentary on Michelin star restaurants in pencil then inked, background painted in acrylics and all scanned in and put together this morning before I get stuck into some work. Coding websites and shiz.

Latest Personal Project

While I was overseas last year I kept a little diary of all the different drinks I consumed (as well as a Travel Diary and all the usual things). I have been meaning to get onto this for a while now, but I want to turn it into a poster, or even a cushion of "Bianca's holiday of massive consumption". It is interesting to look back over it and see things like a warm beer in London, Sangria in Barcelona and a Martini in the Monaco Casino (so very James Bond!).
Have finally scanned all the pics in, now time for layout and colour. Pretty interesting keepsake hey!

I hate moths. Actually I am scared of them. They remind me of death and they seem to constantly want to bump into my face with their dusty wings. Evil little creatures.
Although while I was looking up pictures of them as references I did feel a little sick to start, but then I started to see pretty patterns in the wings. So maybe in the end this was kind of therapeutic for me. Dusty pink background added as well to make it look prettier.

Ok I am being a bit lazy this week and putting up a pic from our current Sole Sisters Collective exhibition but the sand dunes in Canunda look so prehistoric to me - plus the only other thing I could think about was fossils but yeah, not much time. Ok so I have taken advantage of the topic slightly but I have had a burning desire to sketch the beautiful streetscenes I saw in Italy.

This one is a little alley from the town of Guglionesi where my Pop grew up. Just love the colours and the textures of the streets. Had a ball wandering around with my little camera.

I spent a lot of money on this jacket. Swanky Italian leather. I didn't spend so much time drawing it though. Tried using a thin calligraphy pen but felt too scratchy. Will go back to my old faithful next time. Worth a try anyway.

Image loosely based on an old photo of my nanna and my three mothers. People think having twins is crazy, imagine moving here from Italy - not being able to speak english all that well and then having triplets. Luckily for Nanna, all the girls were just darlings, like me.

Personally I would love to have triplets. Hmmm

Must be making up for a lack of black last week as well, went with an old school greyscale comic theme this time around.

Ohmigod is it breakfast already! Reminds me of Toula from Fat Pizza. Anyway...
My favourite breakfast ever was waffles with strawberries and pannacotta gelato in a cafe in Glenelg a couple of years ago. So I tried drawing it minus the gelato, and in pencils with none of my trademark BLACK. It was hard yes, and I think I prefer black ink. But hey, worth having a play.

Ah I am back after a very, very busy couple of weeks. I miss Illustration Friday, I really do. So this week I made myself make time - and the topic - was easy for me this time around.

This is a pic of the wicked travel journal my friend Simone gave me for my travels. I cannot wait to use this as a diary for 6 weeks - fill it with lots of awesome memories! Ahhh!!!!

So I have been MIA from Illustration Friday for the last two weeks as I have started to get really stuck into art for the Sole Sisters Collective exhibition (September and November this year). I am using the majority of my Fridays to work on art at at the moment lino cutting is where I am at. I love Illy Friday but at the moment I need every spare second to think of art - as I want to get as much as I can done before we head off OS.

These ones are taken on the computer, hence the whole 'reversed look'. Tried printing these on material - to see how it absorbed the paints and the print. Am having a lot of fun with it, hoping to get out another lino print done tomorrow, plus start on some illustrations. Plan is to have a digital print with the lino print overlaid on top. The idea is working in my head, let's just see if it can translate to the actual artwork!

Oh and from today it is 9 weeks until we take a ride on a big jet plane! Woop!

I had to look up the word, terrible really! I knew of it as something to do with gardening but not exactly sure what. I chose to do little pansies planted in pots spreading beautiful colours to the world. I actually should put some pansies in my garden, come to think of it.

Had fun doing this little sketch, but not so much fun cleaning up when I accidentally knocked over the ink in the middle of the lounge room floor. Oops!

Adrift - where I would rather be right now. This week has been chaos! I would have liked more time to work on this picture but basically it is me with my head in the clouds in my coffee break.
I don't know, not a huge fan of it, but promised myself I was doing a pic every week. Keen to hear the new topic for next week and start afresh!

A muddy mud crab!
Bit of a messy ink job here - soaked into the paper a little more than planned but I guess I know for next time now :) I really am into flicking watercolour paints look lately!
Started in lead pencil, watercoloured, then outlined in ink with some more smudging afterwards with the ink.

Illustration Friday - Focused

Focused was the topic this week, and the first thing that came to mind was Toby, my partner (live-in lover, whatever I feel like calling him) who is currently in training for the Port Macquarie Ironman on March 28th this year. To compete in such a long event you must be very focused in training to make sure you can actually put all three disciplines of swimming, riding and running together, especially when the event goes from anything around 10-15 hours!

I still find drawing boys quite difficult, but gave it a red hot shot. I am still loving the watercolour splatters I did a few weeks back so recycled some of them.

Eventually will vectorise this image and make some tees for the big event. If anyone is interested in following Toby's progress you can here - www.howistobygoing.blogspot.com.

All good things are wild and free - the quote I found for inspiration for this weeks pic. Really loving Stina Persson's watercolour work so had a little play with some paints. Image of girl is in lead pencil and overlaid in Photoshop. Must be feeling a little designery today looking at the layout of it!

Illustration Friday - Confined

My first thoughts for the word confined was a bird in a cage, but I thought that would be good to think past the first thought for something different so I started jotting down words that confined made me think of. I ended up with the idea of private school girls who all have to wear the same uniform. I am sure they feel confined at times! I would.

The below version is one outlined in pen - I think I like the sketchy pencil one above more.

My Favourite Shoes!

I did this drawing late last year when I was in need to just draw something. These are my favourite pair of shoes, not the most comfortable after wearing them for a long period of time, but I love!
Done with watercolour paints (soooo much better than pencils) and ink.
I am kind of attached to this pic, I guess because I was just hanging to draw for so long, think I might frame it for my office one day.

First Illustration Friday - Renewal

Ok, so here is my first illustration. I wanted to post it now, otherwise I will just continue to make changes and probably add more things just for the sake of adding things!
I guess it is a little abstract but who doesn't feel renewed after washing their face or splashing cold water on it.
